Ahiravan

"It will be I who presides over the end of days, not my sister."

Ahiravan was a rakshasa.

History[]

Ahiravan was the son of the rakshasa Khreeshan and the brother of Ravana. His history is largely unknown, but he was one of the Lords of Dust and at some point he killed the Corhyrian hero Rashid and then used illusion magic to assume Rashid's identity - keeping the adventurer's head (disguised as a rakshasa head) as a trophy. It is likely that Rashid tried to kill Ahiravan in order to take the third adamantine key, which the rakshasa held. During his impersonation of Rashid, Ahiravan offered Maharion an adamantine key in exchange for inclusion in the expedition to Charn. One of Ahiravan's most trusted advisers was Sobek, and the crocodile lord created a monstrous chimaeric hippopotamus to serve as Ahiravan's mount.

Description[]

A more experienced and dangerous Ahiravan

A more experienced and dangerous Ahiravan

Ahiravan seemed to be more patient and careful than his sister, putting much more thought into his decisions and being more willing in general to negotiate with his enemies (so long as it helped him accomplish his ends). He wore a red cloak with golden jewellery and spoke in a deep, booming voice. His true form was beautiful, sleek and elegant. He claimed that he was sympathetic, and that his victims all died painlessly. He believed that life is suffering, and he considered it a great honour that he had been chosen to oversee the end of the the world, a kindness to the mortals whose lives he would be mercifully ending. He was contemptuous of those opposed him, considering heroism to be a worthless gesture intended only to win validation and to stroke one's ego. As an experienced sorcerer, he controlled extremely powerful magic, and eventually developed an affinity for necromancy.

Ahiravan the Lich

Ahiravan, in his undead form

Vantis and Lannus exposed Ahiravan's impersonation of Rashid at Ramandu's Rock and the rakshasa was imprisoned. He was sent to the city of Daln to be displayed at the Imperial Zoo, and later released by the gnoll Srana. After that he apparently travelled to Isaravissith on the island of Shavarath, while commanding the rakshasa Idrajit to kill or capture the goatfolk of Badeb and Atazar. Vantis, Lannus and Rexxar later learned that Ahiravan planned to summon the Beast in a terrible ritual where a mortal kills the last specimen of a bloodline with the dagger Khratash on the Altar of the Apocalypse. When Vantis, Lannus and Rexxar encountered the waste preacher Lasarno in Daln, he revealed their location to Ahiravan who confronted them in the skies above the city, demanding to know the location of the Khratash (apparently unaware that the dagger was held by Sreshtu). Ahiravan's undead vulture was destroyed by Rexxar in the fight and his body was destroyed, but his winged chimaeric mount escaped and there was soon suspicion that he had used necromancy to preserve himself as a lich. Lannus, Rexxar and Vantis used divination magic to determine the location of Ahiravan's phylactery (the skull of his father Khreeshan), and though it was guarded by Akshar at a remote mountain camp they used teleportation and an antimagic field to quickly travel to the location, destroy the skull and escape.
