Darcassen Voss Valarion

Darcassen Voss Valarion is a Thranish wizard and aristocrat.

History[]

Darcassen Voss was the second and last child of the Thranish Imperial family. His father when he was very young, after which his older sister as Empress presided over prosperity for decades. During his sister's reign he studied in Andros with his friend Maharion, rising to the position of Master Wizard quickly and eventually becoming the Archmage due at least in part to an exemplary capacity for wizardry. His sister and her husband were later slain by assassins and survived by one daughter Kaori. The assassins killed themselves after carrying out the act, apparently under the control of some kind of enchantment spell. Darcassen Voss and his niece were close after the death of his brother until, unbeknownst to Kaori or anyone else, the Grand Enchanter Vedansh used an advanced and powerful spell to covertly seize control of Darcassen Voss' body and mind. Some time later the wizard Darevor and the assassin Kasimir attacked Kaori in the Imperial Zoo of Daln. She escaped but went on the run and was declared dead leaving no heir, so Darcassen Voss became the Emperor of Thrane and Vedansh ruled the Empire through him. Darcassen Voss had been widely respected by the Thranish people prior to the disappearance of Kaori, after which point popular opinion of him began to steadily but continually decline.

Description[]

Darcassen Voss is a tall thin man with grey hair. He appears old and almost broken, as if even powerful healing magic has not completely restored him. He wears fine clothing and carries some valuable family relics - a robe, a ring and an amulet all imbued with powerful magic. He is a powerful archmage and extremely well-read on a broad array of subjects.

In the Campaign[]

Vantis and Lannus visited Darcassen Voss in Andros to ask him to help defend Corhyr from the Howlers, although they did not realize at this time that he was under the control of Vedansh. Vedansh, using Darcassen Voss as a puppet, argued that there was unrest in Thrane and that the Corhyrians would almost certainly not help Thrane if the positions were reversed. However Vantis successfully negotiated that Thrane would send ten wizards (each carrying a powerful wand of necromancy), and in exchange guaranteed the Thranish a position on the council which would determine how best to use the third Charn wish. Vantis also agreed that given Maharion's instrumental role in organizing the Charn expedition, Darcassen Voss on behalf of Thrane would have the authority to veto any proposal that did not have otherwise unanimous support. Zarx at some point used the Rod of Dominion to seize control of Vedansh and his thralls, and attempted in vain to use Darcassen Voss to defeat Vantis, Lannus and Rexxar when they travelled to Andros in order to seek a way to defeat the army of the dead summoned by Lorzak (Lannus disabled Darcasson Voss and broke his nose with a blow to the face). They then brought Darcassen Voss back to Kaori and Lorenzo Garazzi in Daln and managed to restore his mind, which had been deeply damaged by various enchantment magics, the damage inflicted on his mind being particularly severe compared to that done to Selemon as Darcassen Voss alone had been directly exposed to both Vedansh and the Rod of Dominion.
